Mera, Island, and Khumbu Circuit

  Day 33: Gokyo-Renjo Pass (5340m)-Lungden (4400m)

Day 33: On the way to Renjo La
Looking back to Gokyo from the trail. At the back are Everest and Lhotse.
Day 33: At the bottom of Renjo La
I took a different path then the rest by going up a rocky trail on the right, following the markers which led to a plateau. Renjo La is at the center right above the big rock. From here I took the right trail along the middle of the ridges which is longer but easier, while the rest took the left trail via the frozen lake.
Day 33: Top of Renjo La (5340m)
Pemba and Mice reaching the top of Renjo La.
Day 33: View from Renjo La
Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse are on the top left.
Day 33: Going down
We passed by some frozen lakes after the pass. There were also patches of alpine desert on the way as seen near the center of this picture.
Day 33: Reaching Lungden
We were lucky to have a new lodge opening up at Lungden. They started operating from Sept 2003. Without this lodge we would have a long long trek all the way down to Thame. The sukuti (Nepali fried beef with onions and chillis) here was good, according to Eric.
