| Day 23: Base camp to Chhukung We left Island Peak heading for Chhukung to start our Khumbu circuit trek. The Chhukung village can be seen at the lower left of the picture. |

| Day 23: Chhukung (4740m) There are tea houses and lodges at Chhukung village, in fact our camp ground was just outside a tea house. We were still camping at Chhukung as we will be crossing Kongma La and will need the tents, so we will be camping till then. |

| Day 23: Guides' tent At the top right is Island Peak. Germaine had decided to return back 1 day earlier and not to go to Chhukung Ri, and Assim would be leaving with her tomorrow. |

| Day 23: It's drinking time We had a small celebration in the tea house, and Assim and I each had a beer. And gosh it was good. |

| Day 23: Warm and cosy The tea house has a fire place and we were so delighted to be away from the cold. Eric wrote his journal as Germaine looked on. |

| Day 23: Transportation A herds of buffalos and yaks passing Chhukung carrying goods up the mountain. Buffalos and yaks are commonly used to transport among villages at the Khumbu region. |
